FORMENTERA LOCATIONS

La savina

The port of La Savina would be the first urban nucleus to take into account, since it is the only access that the tourist has to the island, and therefore, it is of vital importance. If something characterizes the Savina is the continuous transit of boats: boats that bring and take tourists and Formenterenses, small and large fishing boats, and in summer an incredible number of recreational boats led by people who decide to spend their summer vacations in the sea, crossing the Mediterranean coasts.

San Francisco Javier

Three kilometers from the port we find San Francesc Xavier, this one, would be the most important urban center, considered as the capital of the island, since the Town Hall is located in its square. Right in front of him, there is the village church, a church, which in the 18th century was used as a fortress against the barbarians, and that over time, has become a refuge for the town's parishioners.

In the Town Hall square is where the most important parties and events are held, which usually gather residents and tourists alike, in a festive, quiet and especially cozy atmosphere.

San Francisco is the most visited town during the day due to its large number of shops and bars, and especially the promenade, where there are numerous hippy stalls, which attract tourists with a multitude of objects related to the island. All this makes this town the capital of the island and a mandatory day visit site.

Es Pujols

The last urban nucleus and surely the one most aimed at tourism is; It’s Pujols. You reach this town from the exit of the port or through Sant Ferran. Only entering this town you can see that the atmosphere is very different from the rest, especially at night. The wide variety of shops, restaurants, bars, pubs and discos make this place a tourist paradise. Either day or night, the flow of people in Es Pujols is continuous; by day you can enjoy its beaches, and all its shops. At night the festive atmosphere reigns, especially in the pubs and on the promenade, where the hippie market attracts people, and the festive atmosphere is mixed with the aroma of the sea.

La Mola

Without leaving the main road, the next stop after San Ferran is La Mola, the furthest town, since it is located at the highest point of the island, about 15 kilometers from Sant Ferran. It can be said that this is one of the quietest villages, because due to the distance, it is not as frequented by tourists and there are few shops and restaurants. Its biggest attraction is the hippie market that opens twice a week and attracts many people. Another attraction of this small town is the lighthouse, located on the cliffs, from which you can see wonderful sunsets and enjoy the solitude of the place.

BEACH

If therees is something that is really characteristic of Formentera are its beaches. The coast of this island is planted with some of the best beaches in Europe, as confirmed by the thousands of tourists who enjoy its waters every summer. The evolution of tourism has made it possible to spend all day at the beach without having to leave it: restaurants, hammocks, umbrellas, water sports ..., everything you need and more, to enjoy the sun of these beaches.

Below is a list of some of the best beaches on the island:

Illetes

The beaches of Illetes, located at the northernmost point of the island, and the closest to the island of Espalmador, (just 150m.), Are the most visited and visited by tourists. You can access this area with any vehicle, although its access on foot or by bicycle is recommended, to better enjoy the landscape and contribute to its environmental protection, due to the continuous traffic of people. In addition, part of this area is not accessible with vehicles, only on foot, due to the irregularity of the terrain. The area of Illetas is one of the most complete in terms of leisure: water sports, (sailing, sky, etc.), restaurants ...

Llevant

Also located on the northern tip of the island, but in the east, as its name indicates. It is also a beach of great extension, and although it is the closest area to Illetas and therefore quite busy, due to its length it is possible to find quieter and lonelier places, although naturally, there is no lack of restaurants and kiosks, and its proximity With Illetas, you can walk all the beaches in the north of the island on foot.

Cala Saona

This small beach, despite its short length, (scarce 200m in length), is one of the most beautiful that can be visited. Its tranquility and characteristic beauty make this cove a must-see place for tourists. Surrounded, of course, of restaurants and kiosks where you can eat, or, cool off with a drink while enjoying the wonderful views offered by the neighboring island of Ibiza, or if you go so far, from the coast of Punta Pedrera, or the beautiful cliffs of Punta Rasa, which are easily accessible on foot, as they are only 10 minutes from the beach.

Migjorn

From Migjorn beach it can be said that it is one of the largest on the island, since its expanse of sand covers a large part of the south coast of the island, almost from La Mola, to Es Cap de Barbaria, being visible these two points so far from each other, from this beach. Its great extension and geographical location, make this beach one of the least traveled, and therefore, one of the quietest on the island, this does not imply that there are no typical restaurants and kiosks next to the beach.

Spalmador

About 150 meters separate the island of Formentera from that of Espalmador. This island despite its small size, 3 square kilometers, hides many wonders inside. There are two ways to access Espalmador: one is by boat that travels from the port of Formentera, to Illetas, and finally reaches Espalmador; or the distance between the two islands can be covered by swimming (as long as the weather and the tide permit). The best known beach of this island is the 'Platja de S'Alga' of great extension, taking into account the size of the island, and considered a natural port due to its closed shape.

The watchtower (Torre de Sa Guardiola), which is located at the highest point, observes the passage of tourists along the coast of the island, which should not forget that it is private and as such should be respected ; and much more considering that it is considered a natural park due to the great variety of fauna and flora that inhabits it. For this reason no restaurant or similar establishment can be found on the island, since they are all
